Tuesday, February 24, 2004 According to the Observer Music Monthly No Way Sis (a spoof on Oasis) who released novelty single "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" have become millionaires in Saudi Arabia. Very strange, does anyone know anymore about this? posted by Zia | 6:03 PMI will be trying hard to get this blog to the quality I want it over the next week or so, I'm getting my broadband connection soon so it should be getting better and if I get my arse learning some code and stuff it'll have some more exciting things. So if there is anyone reading yet please keep checking back. posted by Zia | 5:20 PMThe latest issue of Jockey Slut has an article about the longevity of Electroclash grouping together artists like LCD Soundsystem and Soulwax. I may be wrong but I never thought of LCD Soundsystem or Soulwax as 'Electroclash'. It's just another poor attempt by PR's and magazines to create and continue a so called scene which has ultimatly suffocated the music. I agree that a homegrwon scene can be a healthy thing but, when it's just randomly created and tagged with a combiword name by PR's and magazines to produce some sort of frenzied bandwagon jump and hype machine then it just reeks. Great bands/artists get completley overlooked because they don't fit in to one of these so called scenes. It means there are more undiscoverd gems out there than ever. This is probably why major music magazines in Britain are completely suffering, with Bang coming and going within the space of 12 months, Jockey Slut going quarterly, and rumours abound that Swinstead's other title X-Ray's going the way of the shredder. Anyone remember Trash, don't blame you because that was only around for 1 measly issue. I have however noticed a few more independent music magazines cropping up (lets hope these manage to stick around) and some that are aimed at an older demographic like Word or Ink. The music magazine market is flooded with badly written and sometimes almost farcical titles. I think there is definately a niche for a high quality unpretentious PR ignoring magazine. How about journalists ignore PRs completely unless they're absolutley essential? A record company executive aquantance of mine was discussing with me why he decided to change a bands PR, their previous press officer was a nice lady but she didn't have enough "juice" he informed me. Unfortunatly many other PR's seem to be able to wank their juice all over the music industry. posted by Zia | 4:27 PMFucking Trisha
A few more to add to the good covers list...
Trying to sort out these links is a pain, I'm not very knowledgable in any web programming or code stuff so it's driving me a little crazy. I just want to get the things I'm interested in on here. posted by Zia | 2:08 AMWatching the film "Panther" on TV it's not bad, it's obviously gonna get pretty heavy soon though. It's got that guy who was Dwayne in "A Different World" in it and he's good although I do keep expecting him to wip out the flip glasses/sunglasses combo out. posted by Zia | 1:55 AMThe follow up to the first part of the best cover songs is on its way..... posted by Zia | 1:33 AMSo I am going through a massive period of insomnia, it's really quite horrible, but it's given me time to do some stuff to the blog and get it somewhere near to how I would like it. posted by Zia | 1:15 AMWednesday, February 04, 2004 First part of CD-R of some of the best cover versions ever......
Monday, January 19, 2004 My first entry and something will probably go wrong, today my diary has instructed me to pretend to be a secret agent. This shouldn't be too hard considering when I was a kid I used to try and invent all manners of invisibilty techniques. I also cut the soles off a pair of my shoes in order to hide things in them and would usually only write in code. Thats really all you need to do to be a spy isn't it?
